Gabrielle Gérard started Ambrym with an idea: create a brand that would respect her values: organic materials, Made in France, and a style appart from short-lived trends. She won immediate praise with a Special Jury Prize at the Festival de Dinard. After a 2 years in the "Ateliers de Paris" incubator, she opened her own "boutique/atelier" in the Canal Saint-Martin area, in Paris.
Who are you?
Ambrym, from the name of an isolated island in the south Pacific, where Gabrielle, the designer grew up. The brand was born a few years ago of a cultural melting pot, between Paris, Rio and South Pacific. It's the perfect dressing-room for a urban, humanist and poetic tribe.
How did you start in fashion?
From the top of a banian tree.
How would you define your style?
Ambrym accomodates tribal and contemporary styles in a urban way. Her concept is to bring the traditional and natural concept of archipelago into the city heart. Japanese influences, finely-worked and subtle cuts: Ambrym propose a unique figure, both fun and poetic, and suitable to anyone.

Childhood and travels memories, Agnès Varda, watercolour paintings, Louise Bourgeois, a cabinet of curiosities, Raymond Depardon, Polynasian handcraft, William Daffoe, New York, Marguerite Duras, Neil Young, Egon Shiele, Afghan rugs, my passport, Jacques Audiard, Paris, country borders...
A few words about this collection...
"Daydream mechanics" is a collection inspired by the significance of childhood memories on adult important events.A meeting, a sensation, a discovery will have a different echo on our life according to the link it will built with our childhood historic. In this way, in Ambrym's heroine eyes, the meeting of the beloved one will be traduced by a woodland and delicate elf.The close animal became dreamlike and cloudy.The journey will take place on a birdback...
What's your favorite piece in our selection?
The "Elfe" Rousseau dress: one of Ambrym's best seller since the beginning. Easy to wear, you can adjust it to all situations and weather!
What are you most proud of?
Remaining true to my values. I feel I managed to spread an important message: it's possible to promote green textiles, to commit oneself socially, and at the same time, to develop a real artistic identity!
Where do you manufacture your products?
Every piece is made in France, in small workshops. And our silkscreen prints are made by a craftman in Seine Saint-Denis (near Paris).
